Maybe everyone ought to be more aware of the BENEFITS of medical marijuana, even if it does NOT give you a buzz!!
What you are about to read will shock you.
Not only does medical marijuana help with nausea, pain, and many other symptoms of many ailments, as attested to by patients, (of legitimate medical doctors), who are using medical marijuana, but even the USA Federal Government knows of the many benefits and has for a very long time!
To start with, let me explain that there is a difference between the marijuana referred to in the following Nugget as compared with recreational or street variants of marijuana. Here we refer to the non-psychoactive marijuana, compared to the street and recreational psychoactive marijuana. The stuff referred to here does NOT GET YOU HIGH. The recreational and street stuff, does get you high and can have some dangers if cut with foreign substances as may happen when buying it on the street corner from a neighborhood dealer. [This is a big selling feature to justify why recreational marijuana, too, ought to be legalized.]
Let me emphasize this: we are talking about the NON-PSYCHOACTIVE marijuana in the following. For that reason we will refer to it by the terminology more commonly used within the medical marijuana profession: CANNABIS.
Way back in 1999, after lengthy studies, the US Federal Government discovered that CANNABIS HAD MANY POSITIVE HEALTH BENEFITS. So much so that the United States Of America as represented by The Department Of Health And Human Services filed for a PATENT to protect this use of it. Patent #US 6630507 B1, “Cannabinoids as antioxidants and neuro-protectants”, dated 1999.
[Note: in the following excerpt, the emphasis and the square brackets are mine. Also, warning: make no changes to your diets, therapies, medications, lifestyles, until you get authorization from your doctor who is qualified to diagnose, prescribe medications, and develop medical therapies to treat diseases.]
Right from the patent itself we learn that “cannabinoids [are] useful in the treatment and prophylaxis [prevention] of wide variety of oxidation associated diseases, such as ischemic, [too little blood supply], age-related, inflammatory and autoimmune diseases, [strokes, heart attacks, brain function, etc.]. The cannabinoids are found to have particular application as neuro-protectants, for example in limiting neurological damage following ischemic insults, [injury or attacks resulting from poor blood circulation], such as stroke and trauma, or in the neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease and HIV dementia. Non-psychoactive cannabinoids, such as cannabidoil, are particularly advantageous to use because they avoid toxicity that is encountered with psychoactive cannabinoids at high doses useful in the method of the present invention.”
There is absolutely no question that medicinal marijuana is a good thing for many people in America: 800,000 people suffer cardiac events each year. But if there is so much advantage to the medical marijuana, one has to wonder if there’d be medical advantages as a prophylactic, [preventative], for recreational marijuana users when the day comes, and it will come, that the Federal Government makes it legal to smoke, eat, or drink recreational forms of marijuana.
