Admittedly, YOU don’t stand a chance out there. Big industry verses you.

Big industry wants to stuff your stomach and empty your pockets by over-feeding you till your drop. It wants to stuff you with food pleasure until you burst…and you will.

The packaged food industry hires some of the smartest research scientists in the world to find ways of tricking your senses to over-ride common sense, over-ride your physiological “I’m full” response, to make you drink more booze, drink more soft drinks, drink more coffee, eat more donuts, eat more fat-laden packaged food, consume pounds more sugar and salt. Big industry will make your waistline explode and they are succeeding. YOU are losing, but not losing weight. You are losing your health and doing so with a smile on your face.

The number of FAT people in America is at an all time high. America has the most number of the fattest kids in the world. Alcoholism is at an all-time high.  Hypertension is at an all-time high. Cardiovascular disease remains the number-one killer of Americans. Stent and by-pass heart surgeries are at an all-time high. For those lucky enough to survive subsequent strokes and heart attacks after their first stent and bypass surgery, doctors are at the ready to do a second or even a third operation.

To pick on one branch of the food industry, TV commercials, for example, TV commercials are saturated with food advertising that has been carefully researched to make your mouth water and to drive your desires to peak levels so you will remember and buy more of what is advertised. Food commercials saturate the air waves: restaurants, hamburgers, pizza, quick snacks, cheese snacks, sandwiches, milk, yogurt, ice cream, and much more. That constant bombardment, over time, cripples your common sense and ability to question the danger of consuming such fat-laden foods. It’s called “brainwashing” and you are the great washed. We don’t question any more. We just buy and chomp. Happy times.

The connection back into the real world comes when industry confirms your purchase decision by ensuring your taste buds go wild with pleasure when you chomp into those foods that you saw advertised. The food industry finds new ways to soak packaged foods in oils, fats, textures, salts, and sugars to make them immediately switch on our pleasure zones in our brain. We don’t stand a chance. YOU don’t stand a chance. Yet, the packaged food industry would have us point the finger back at ourselves for eating and drinking too much and for guilt-tripping us into thinking either we don’t exercise enough or we fail as parents for not making out kids exercise sufficiently to counteract the damage done by eating packaged foods.

The only way out of this food and drink morass is to avoid the packaged food industry almost entirely. Stop eating packaged foods and you will avoid the dangers from fat, sugar, and salt, of which they trick you into wanting more. Eat fresh foods that you, yourself,  prepare. Once you try it a few times you’ll realize two things: it’s easier to do than you think AND you’ll cut your grocery bill by dramatic amounts…and you’ll lose tens-of-pounds quickly, too. Eat the right foods and weight melts off as a by-product without even trying… while your health and energy dramatically improves.

FAT is used to ensure that packaged foods give you the “right” sensations when that food is put into your mouth. The food industry learned to use fats to tweak your Endorphins.  They use SUGAR in the same way.  They use SALT in the same way.  [Source: see reference 1]

Years ago a close personal friend of mine switched out of that media-food world by flipping from a carnivorous diet to a 100% vegan lifestyle. In approximately 7 days, he was writhing in pain in bed, perspiring, puking, and shivering for the next 2 days until suddenly his sweats and pain evaporated. Every symptom manifest was that of an addict experiencing withdrawal. When he did the same thing, weeks later, for escaping the grips of sugar in packaged foods he suffered equally, once again. He broke free of TWO addictions: meats and sugar. Was it worth it? He thought so. His weight dropped from 215 pounds to 165 pounds without even trying…no increase to his exercise. It was just avoiding bad foods, packaged foods, and escaping the bounds of fats and sugar in foods.

The food industry has turned Americans into food addicts.  This addiction is so pervasive in our society that we are ashamed to think of food as an addiction…and that is exactly what the packaged food industry would want of you. It would want you to feel ashamed and guilty to think of their food as addictive.

Don’t feel guilty, and don’t be ashamed to tell your friends about the truth of the fat, sugar, and salt con being played on you.

Here are two books that you should read…and take to heart, no pun intended:
